Live Music, Elevated: Nights At The Shag Room Inside Virgin Hotels

The Shag Room

The Shag Room is turning up the vibe with live music that feels equal parts intimate and electric.

Tucked inside one of Vegas’ most stylish lounges, the space sets the scene with moody lighting, plush seating, and a lineup of talented artists bringing everything from smooth vocals to upbeat sets. It’s the kind of spot where you can sip, unwind, and get lost in the music — whether you’re kicking off the night or settling in for a late-night scene. Equal parts chic and lively, The Shag Room is quickly becoming a go-to for live music with a side of serious atmosphere.

The Inspiration Behind The Shag Room’s Entertainment Lineup

With a desire to showcase Las Vegas talent, The Shag Room has expanded their entertainment offerings. Andrew Pittard, VP of Food & Beverage at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas said, “We are fortunate to live in a city with so many incredible and diverse musicians, and wanted to provide them with a professional space to showcase their talent.”

It all began with weekly open mic nights about five years ago, and thanks to a “warm and passionate reception to those,” more live music has been added to the calendar.

“For the winners of the open mic nights we offer residencies, giving them feature performances and full-length sets, but also have rotating entertainment on weekends that feature local artists,” Pittard said. “The community has grown a ton organically, and we want to do what we can to continue to foster that community.”

A Unique Venue For Local Talent

When asked how live local music fits into the overall vision for The Shag Room, Pittard said it’s the “direction and soul.”

“Local music is the lifeblood and identity of Shag Room, it isn’t about fit, it’s the direction and soul,” he shared. “The Shag Room has always incorporated local music into its programming, that is something we are incredibly proud of.”

The Shag Room is a small, intimate room that “feels more like a cozy den than a commercialized lounge.” No matter where you’re seated, you’re in view of all the action on the stage.

“And the overall vibe of the lounge is just unmatched,” Pittard added. “The retro aesthetic gives the space so much personality, I can look at a picture and immediately clock that it was taken in The Shag Room because not a lot of other places have the look.”

The Shag Room Is Always Thinking About Expansion Into More Local Music

Pittard said helping to expose local artists throughout their musical journey is something The Shag Room strives for.

“We are lucky enough to have all these amazing resources, and wanted to use them to uplift our local music scene,” he said. “Las Vegas is renowned for its incredible art scene, and we’re proud to be a part of that.”

When talking about growing the program, Pittard shared that they are always looking to expand their offerings. Open mic nights bring in “any array of genres and styles” and that’s “impacted the other residencies.”

“On any given night you can come in and hear an alt-rock band, or a renowned jazz musician, or an R&B performer, it’s a great mix and something we look forward to continuing,” he added. “Every musician who passes through the curtain into the lounge brings immense passion and dedication to their performances, and that results in a really special experience for audiences.”

Professional working solo guitar player, Shawn Eiferman, is the host of the weekly open mic nights. He said there’s a “cool factor to playing spots like The Shag Room.”

“I can book a show anywhere in the world because I mention that I played at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas weekly for years and all the gatekeeping and weird screening process is over,” he said. “They immediately know that I’m reliable, professional, talented, etc., there is an incredibly strong reputation that comes from playing a spot like this. If you’re good enough to play here…you can play anywhere.”

He further went on to explain a little more about the space.

“The Shag Room has the vibe, the stage, sound, and lighting, staff, customers, location and to have the support of a massive and influential brand is a game changer,” he said. “I’ve been at square one and I know how many hurdles there are getting started, and how many places musicians have to play that don’t provide a good sound guy, or any lighting, or put you on a stool in the corner of a bar playing to 10 people. The fact that any local musician can come down here and play on a legit stage, with all the bells and whistles is something special that I don’t see replicated almost anywhere else.”

The Focus Is On The Performers

It’s all about the performers at The Shag Room, and it’s been that way for years. Guests have called The Shag Room their “fountain of youth” and the “best dating app ever.”

“Performers treat it like a musical gym. I’ve had folks come every week for years that don’t perform call it the only habit they don’t list every year to quit for New Year’s resolutions,” he said. “And for me, it’s place to help musicians find their groove, see their potential and achieve their goals.”
